Durable Goods Orders tracks new orders for US-made products expected to last at least three years, including machinery, vehicles and aircraft. The headline figure can swing sharply between months.
A strong report may point to improving factory demand, but aircraft orders can dominate the total. Traders often check orders excluding transportation and business-equipment measures before judging the investment trend.
Usual effect: An actual figure above the forecast is generally good for the US dollar; a figure below the forecast is generally bad for it.
