Forecast – · Previous 0.9%

Core Retail Sales removes auto dealers from the headline US retail sales figure. This makes it easier to judge spending without the large swings that vehicle purchases can cause.

Traders compare the core and headline results to understand where spending is coming from. A strong core reading may support growth expectations, but fuel prices and revisions can still influence the broader story.

Usual effect: An actual figure above the forecast is generally good for the US dollar; a figure below the forecast is generally bad for it.
