Forecast – · Previous -1.9M

EIA Crude Oil Inventories shows the weekly change in commercial crude oil held in the United States, excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. It helps traders track the balance between supply and demand.

A larger-than-expected stock draw can support oil prices, while an unexpected build can weigh on them. Refinery activity, imports and gasoline inventories also matter. Oil traders may see sharp volatility even when the USD impact is limited.

Usual effect: A smaller build or a larger draw than forecast tends to lift oil prices, which is generally good for oil-linked currencies such as the Canadian dollar; a larger build tends to weigh on them.
